The engine is the heart of any car. For people driving a sportier car, it has to work seamlessly with the onboard transmission and the other elements under the hood for the best driving experience possible.
We're proud to say that the 2.0L BOXER turbocharged 4-cylinder that's under the hood of the 2015 Subaru WRX models at our Ramsey NJ dealership location was named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines.

This award was given out based on the 2.0L BOXER engine's performance in terms of observed fuel economy, onboard technology, horsepower, torque, noise mitigation, drivability and noise mitigation.
In total, there were 8 judges from WardsAuto who drove 37 different powertrains throughout the months of October and November. They wound up choosing the 2015 Subaru WRX's engine over the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinders from these vehicles:
- 2015 Chevrolet Cruze
- 2015 Volkswagen GTI
- 2015 Hyundai Sonata
- 2015 Mini Cooper S hardtop
- 2015 Lexus NX 200t
- 2015 Audi S3
- 2015 Acura TLX
WardsAuto was truly impressed by the 2.0L BOXER engine's ability to get fuel economy of an EPA-estimated 28 mpg highway (city driving yields 21 mpg) and how it makes shifting gears with the onboard 6-speed manual transmission thrilling. One editor even noted that the engine made this year's Subaru WRX the best one yet.

2015 Subaru WRX Engine Tech & Capabilities
We're proud of this 2.0L BOXER turbocharged 4-cylinder because of every element used. In terms of power, the engine delivers 268 hp and 258 lb/ft of torque. If you really want to rev it up, you can get up to 6,700 rpm because of the equal 86-mm bore & stroke dimensions.
We explained the fuel economy numbers above, but you can get it and the sporty performance you desire in the 2015 Subaru WRX through the use of direct fuel injection, high 10.6:1 compression, a twin-scroll turbocharger, an intercooler and the Subaru Dual Active Valve Control System (D-AVCS).
Oh, and that pushbutton ignition system you see above: it's available in select 2015 Subaru WRX models for sale at our dealership location on Route 17 in Bergen County for an even more immersed driving experience.
