Improved Miles Per Gallon (MPG)
The 2017 Forester 2.5i is available in base, Premium, Limited and Touring trims and features a 2.5L 4-cylinder BOXER engine that produces 170 hp. While a 6-speed manual transmission is standard for the 2.5i and 2.5i Premium, Subaru offers an optional Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Revisions to the powertrain resulted in improved to fuel economy for 2.5i CVT models which now achieves EPA fuel economy rating of 32 mpg on the highway.
The Forester 2.0XT boasts a 250-horsepower 2.0L inter-cooled, turbocharged 4-cylinder BOXER engine that achieves up to 28 mpg on the highway, and is available in the Premium and Touring trims.
Enhanced Subaru's EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology
Subaru's EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is one of Subaru's most significant innovations in crash prevention. Subaru EyeSight is an extra set of eyes on the road, and if necessary, an extra foot on the brake. The components that make up the EyeSight System includes: Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure & Sway Warning, Pre-Collision Braking and Pre-Collision Throttle Management.
For 2017, the Subaru Forester updates the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology by incorporating color cameras that offer a wider, longer field of vision. 2016 Subaru models equipped with the available EyeSight have received the highest possible rating in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Highway (IIHS) front crash prevention tests. With an even more enhanced EyeSight system, you can be sure you and your passengers are protected. The 2017 Forester revised EyeSight system also includes Lane Keep Assist which monitors your vehicles position on the road and can guide you back to the center if sway is detected.

All Forester Limited and Touring models now include Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which warn of potential danger from a vehicle entering the driver’s blind spot or approaching from either side when backing up. Premium models equipped with EyeSight also get Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These will all be really helpful on New Jersey roads.
Reverse Automatic Braking is a new preventative safety technology available in the 2017 Subaru Forester which is designed to assist the driver in avoiding a collision by detecting large objects and help avoid a collision when your Subaru is moving slowly in reverse. Using 4 ultrasonic sonar sensors (located in the rear bumper), if your vehicle is in reverse motion and a potential collision is detector, Reverse Automatic Braking can automatically stop the vehicle if the driver does not respond in time.
Added Night Time Visibility
Additional safety updates include High Beam assist and Steering Responsive Headlights. The available High Beam Assist works along side the EyeSight Driver Assist and automatically switches the headlights between the high and low settings based on driving conditions. Steering Responsive Headlamps function by aiming the headlight beams in the direction of vehicle travel, providing improved illumination around curves.
On top of functionality, the redesigned headlights have a sleeker look with Subaru’s signature C-shaped motif and a black inner bezel, while the rear combination lights also feature a prominent C shape with LED illumination. Combined, the new styling and lighting element of the new 2017 Subaru Forester provide excellent forward visibility along with a more robust and distinctive look.

Interior and Exterior Design Updates
