Subaru Forester vs Outback vs Crosstrek vs Ascent

When you’re shopping for a crossover, you know there are a variety of reasons you’re drawn to the Subaru brand including the safety & reliability that our brand is known for. Not to mention all of the great features & capabilities offered in all 4 of our crossovers:

Each of these vehicles gives you a number of similar amenities including Subaru Symmetrical AWD, EyeSight driver assistance technology and SUBARU STARLINK multimedia system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, amongst many others. But there are some key differences in terms of the driving experience you can get.

Subaru Forester Orangeburg NY

Subaru Forester

Probably the most popular crossover in our lineup is the Subaru Forester. That’s probably because it’s midsize, making it ideal for customers who are looking for enough space to fit their cargo & passengers while not being too big to feel like a SUV.

In fact, you can take advantage of up to 31.1 cubic feet of regular "trunk" room, while lowering the rear seatbacks gets you up to 76.1 cubic feet of space. Not to mention up to 1,500 lbs of towing capability when properly configured.

While offering impressive power & space, you also get exceptional fuel economy, with the Forester rated at up to an EPA-estimated 33 mpg while driving on the highway and 26 mpg when driving in the city.

Subaru Outback Orangeburg NY

Subaru Outback

The Subaru Outback is not only the longest-tenured crossover in our lineup, but it also offers a unique design compared to the rest. That’s because it’s a wagon that’s lowered to the ground than a typical crossover, making it truly feel like you’re driving a larger sedan rather than a SUV.

Because the Outback uses the same engine as the Forester, it also boasts the same fuel economy ratings. However, it’s more powerful in the towing department thanks to its ability to trailer up to 3,500 lbs of cargo.

It’s also close in size to the Forester as well, except it provides a larger cargo area in back measuring in at up to 32.5 cubic feet behind the 2nd row. When the back seats are folded down, the Outback offers up to 75.7 cubic feet of space.

Subaru Crosstrek Orangeburg NY

Subaru Crosstrek

The Subaru Crosstrek is the most compact crossover offering in our lineup. It still gives you plenty of space inside, between the 20.8 cubic feet of cargo room behind row 2 and 55.3 cubic feet when said seating is lowered.

Being compact also means you’ll have an easier time parallel parking in urban areas or on a main street in town, getting a more car-like feel behind the wheel and receive the most fuel efficiency. In fact, the Crosstrek is rated at up to an EPA-estimated 33 mpg on the highway & 27 mpg in the city as of this post’s publishing.

If you’re looking for even more gas savings, then the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid electric vehicle is the solution for you. This electric vehicle offers up to 90 MPGe & 35 mpg combined fuel economy, along with a maximum driving range of 480 miles when using both battery & gas power.

Subaru Ascent Orangeburg NY?

Subaru Ascent

The Subaru Ascent is the largest crossover offering in our brand’s lineup and surely looks & feels like a SUV. In fact, there’s comfortable seating for up to 7 or 8 passengers, depending on if you choose the captain’s chair or bench seat configuration for the 2nd row.

There are also up to 8 USB ports, which means a device for each potential occupant in the Ascent, and 19 cup & bottle holders that’ll come in handy for holding beverages or other small items. Storage comes plentiful in this crossover, thanks to the 47.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the 2nd row & 86.5 cubic feet behind the front seats.

You can also get a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs in the Ascent, which is plenty for a camper, off-road vehicles or a boat. That way you can enjoy North New Jersey & beyond with everything you want to bring for the ride.
